Winter Session Activities

This winter, we're offering the following activities (including some full-year activities):

Art: “Draw, Paint, and Sculpt Full

Come and explore your creative side.  We’ll learn about some well known, famous artists from the past and present as we try out various mediums.  Children will have an opportunity to draw, paint and work three dimensionally in class.  The class will allow students to develop their art-making skills and explore personal areas of creative interest. 

All supplies will be provided in class.  Students are required to bring an art smock to protect their uniform.  Please bring your smock on the first day of class in a zip lock bag labeled with your name.  Class size is limited to 15 children.

Mad Science Full

Mad Science: Energy, Forces & Flight
Hold on to your hats, because Mad Science is back! Take a tour on the electron freeway, as we
study “current” events. Make your own petri dish of oobbleck.Learn about the incredible
“Fun”-damental Forces as we study gravity, inertia and centripetal force, and then discover
what shapes make the world’s strongest buildings. Explore aerodynamics and the properties of
air, and make your very own loop-flying stunt plane. All this and more, this session of Mad Science!

Band

St. Simon band is fun and educational experience for all 4th through 8th grade students. In band, students learn the fundamentals of the instrument they choose and will also learn how to play in an ensemble setting. Instruments offered: Flute, Clarinet, Saxophone, Trumpet, Trombone, and Drums.  Students receive a grade on their report cards and may qualify for a block "S."  For more information, see the Band page in Year-Round Activities.

Chess Club Session 2: Yes for Chess

Yes For Chess is an interactive AFTER SCHOOL program that is both educational and fun! We teach students to succeed in chess and achieve in life.

  • No prior chess experience required 
  • Classes for students from Kindergarten through 8th grade 
  • Participants are grouped by age and experience level

Create our Own 2D Games from Scratch Canceled

The Miller Institute for Learning with Technology

Students will learn to use MIT’s “Scratch” programming environment to create their own 2D “worlds,” including computer games and simulations. In the process, they will learn key concepts in computer science, mathematics and science (partly depending on the examples chosen by the students). Above all, students will learn powerful problem-solving and debugging skills that can be applied in a wide range of contexts – far beyond computer game development.

This class needs 10 students to run and is limited to 25 students.

Let your imagination run wild with over 100,000 pieces of LEGO®! Build engineer-designed
projects such as boats, bridges, mazes and motorized cars, and use special pieces to create
your own unique design! Explore the endless creative possibilities of the LEGO® building
system with the guidance of an experienced Play-Well instructor. This is an ideal way to
prepare young builders for the challenge of Engineering FUNdamentals.

This class needs 11 students to run and is limited to16 students.

Croatian Language Program Canceled

Language Owl, LLC instructors use a fun and unique method to engage children through activities, games, art projects, and movement. Children will learn Croatian Language, grammar, literature, songs, native modules and Croatian culture.

TGA, Premier Junior Golf is bringing the golf course to your school! TGA is the only national at-school, after school golf enrichment program. TGA provides ALL equipment so students need to bring nothing but a smile to each class. Students learn all aspects of golf, from swing fundamentals to the game’s rules, etiquette and life values, while advancing through a 5 Level Program. The TGA program helps build life values through educational concepts that include Math, English, Science, and History. Students starting in the Yellow Level will receive a TGA Hat, TGA Hat Pin, and a TGA Workbook. The class is held in a fun, safe and nurturing environment that builds confidence, focus, motor skills, and self esteem.
