The St. Simon Faculty and Staff encourage the participation of volunteers.
It is felt that the students benefit from seeing the importance of service
to others in their daily lives. There are many ways to volunteer time both
at home and at school that will assist in the education of the children.
Each year, we ask parents to fill out a volunteer form. This form is used
throughout the school year to call upon parents who wish to volunteer their
services. Volunteer opportunities include serving as a lunch duty supervisor,
health office volunteer, aide for the computer lab and/or library, guest
speaker, Book Club coordinator, or by working in the classrooms, making copies
in the school office, and performing many other tasks which are essential
to the smooth running of our school.
A Host Family Night, held at the beginning of each school year, provides additional information about volunteer opportunities in the school and in the parish and a chance to sign up. St. Simon Parish School opposes the requirement on mandatory parent service hours, and we wholeheartedly appreciate all the time that parents and community members give of their own free will. Volunteers are honored at a special Mass and reception on the First Friday in May.
All on-campus volunteers are required to sign the Visitor Book near the office each day they volunteer. This assists the school in keeping records and enables the office to contact them in case of emergency. For the safety of students, volunteers are also required to wear a name tag while on campus.
