Student Council

St. Simon School has an active Student Council consisting of seven officers and two representatives from each room in Grades 4 through 8. The offices are:

  • Commissioner General (8th grade student only)
  • Assistant Commissioner General (8th grade student only)
  • Commissioner of Finance (students in grades 7-8)
  • Commissioner of Secretarial Duties
  • Commissioner of Communications
  • Commissioner of Community & Religious Affairs
  • Commissioner of Boys' and Girls' Athletics/Spirit

To be eligible to serve as an officer on the Student Council, a student must have had no grade lower than a “B” in Conduct, Effort, and Homework during the current school year. During his/her term of office, any officer who receives a grade lower than a “B” in Conduct, Effort, or Homework will be removed from office for the remainder of the term. The homeroom teacher will notify the Student Council advisor if this occurs. The application process to run for office includes parental permission and the approval of the student's current teachers.

To be eligible to serve as a classroom representative a student must maintain at least a “B” grade in Conduct, Effort and Homework. The term for classroom representative is one semester.

Student Council officers and representatives must:

  • demonstrate good leadership qualities
  • attend meetings as scheduled
  • keep a notebook and take notes at all meetings
  • report to their classes about Student Council meetings
  • gather ideas from their classes and report back to the Student Council
  • help plan, and then participate in, Student Council-sponsored functions
