Sports Advisory Board

"Physical fitness is not only one of the most important keys to a healthy body, it is the basis of dynamic and creative intellectual activity..." -JFK

"The best thing about sports is the sense of community and shared emotion it can create." -Unknown

"You've got to be very careful if you don't know where you're going, because you might not get there." -Yogi Berra

The Sports Advisory Board assists the Athletic Director and School Administration in formulating policies that ensure quality sports programs for the school. Like other St. Simon Parish groups, the Sports Advisory Board has a set of by-laws that not only describe its objectives, but also the primary activities and duties it expects to perform. (Please review the by-laws here.)

The current Sports Advisory Board members include (in alphabetical order): Sandy Antony, Mike Armistead, Natalie Bostrom, Troy Domier, Sue Hoey, Pepe Hinojosa and Scott Vermeer. Our school's Athletic director, Kevin Smith, attends every meeting as the school representative. As stated in the by-laws, one of the most important duties for these individuals is to bring parent feedback to meetings, so please do not hesitate to contact any one of the members if you have a question, concern, or are simply wondering about an aspect of the school's athletic program.

Recently, the Sports Advisory Board decided to form five committees to tackle important areas like an all-pro linebacker. (Sports analogies are OK in this context.) These committees also offer a great opportunity for more people - meaning YOU - to get involved in helping shape St. Simon's sports. The five committees are:

  • Fund Raising (overseeing athletic department fund raising activities)
  • Coaches (recruiting, clinics, evaluations)
  • Sport Development (new, under-developed sports; e.g. track, water polo)
  • Community Relations (proactive communication with St. Simon community)
  • Documentation/Archival (processes & procedures for important sports-related tasks)
Each committee will create their own objectives and report progress to the Sports Advisory Board. At least one member from the board will act as a liaison for each committee to help ensure consistency with the goals stated in the Sports Handbook and Sports Advisory Board By-Laws. If you are interested in volunteering for a committee, please contact any of the SAB members. We very much look forward to your involvement to help make our sports program achieve its mission.

Every member of the Sports Advisory Board and school administration appreciates your involvement and support.
