Welcome to First Grade!

Hello and Welcome to Ms. Navarro's First Grade Class. On this website you will be able to find the children's homework assignments for the week as well as any other important information you will need to know.

 

1st Grade notes and Tips

Please Read!

*It is very important that the children get to bed at a reasonable time. Many children are very tired towards the end of the day.

*Students are expected to arrive to school on time. Assembly is an important part of our day. If you arrive after assembly has started they will be noted as late. Please be sure to give yourself plenty of time in the morning to arrive to school on time.

*It is essential for first grade to read at home with a parent. Please read with your child at least 10 min. every day.

*Also, please have your child practice their math facts with flash cards, math sheets, or computer games.

*Don't forget: Library books are due on Fridays.

In Class This Week:   

Language arts: Our focus is short a sounds. We will read stories and focus and its setting and characters. We will also practice that sentences begin with capital letters.

Spelling words: (-an, -at) man, ran, can, cat, hat, mat, 

High Frequency words: jump, not, up, I          

In Math, we will continue to recognize numbers and number words for zero through twelve. We will work on recognizing 1 more and 1 less.

In Religion, we will discover that “Jesus tells us that God is his Father and our loving Father too”. We will learn that we sow love for one another in different ways.

In Science, our focus is the needs of plants and we will examine the different parts of plants.

In Social Studies, we will discuss Community Rules and we will recognize the need for rules and laws in the community.

Please remember:

1. Pick up for first grade is in front of the gym. Please allow us to walk all the way to our designated area before you take a child from the line. Do not pick up from the classroom or on our way to the gym.

2. PE days are Mondays and Thursdays. Remember to wear you PE clothes to school.

3. Remember to bring a snack on early dismissal days.
