Notification of Asbestos Re-inspections
To: Parents and Staff of St. Simon Parish School
From: Marian Stuckey, Superintendent of Schools
Date: October 14, 2008
In compliance with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Asbestos Hazard Emergency Response Act (AHERA), in the fall of 1988 we performed inspections of each of our school buildings for asbestos-containing building materials. The inspection findings and asbestos management plans have been on file in each school administrative office since that time.
Previously the EPA required us to perform reinspections of the asbestos materials every three years. During the Fall of 2004 and 2005 the areas were reinspected. The results of the reinspections are reviewed and any recommended actions we should take to safely manage each asbestos material in our building are acted upon. New EPA requirements require reinspections on a six month cycle. The reinspections will begin again in the Fall of 2008.
All of the brown 9 x 9 floor tiles in the janitor’s closet were removed in the year 2000 and replaced with off-white 12 x 12 floor tile. The flex board in the restrooms was removed in the year 2000. All of the asbestos-containing flue tape located in the school has been removed. Contractors certified for the removal of asbestos did all of the above work.
All asbestos containing building materials in your school are in good condition to our knowledge and we will continue to manage them in place, as recommended by the accredited management planner.
This notification must be inserted into the management plan in the school's administrative office. Everyone is welcome to view this anytime during normal school hours. The Asbestos Program Manager, Ian Abell, is available to answer any questions you may have about asbestos in our buildings at (408) 983-0288.

Join us on our “Safari” and get ready for a fun year of reading!
Scholastic Book Fair comes to our school Sunday, November 2nd through Thursday, November 6th to share exciting books and learning products with our student readers. Parents and teachers will find plenty to interest them too! The fair will be open on Sunday from 10:00am to 12:00pm and on school days from 8:00am to 3:00pm. Proceeds from the Book Fair support our school library.
Also, when you visit the fair, look for the Classroom Wish List display to see how you can help build your child’s classroom library.
To help make the Book Fair successful, we will need lots of additional help. If you can help, please complete the form below. Return it to Ms. Patti Bo, school librarian, via your child’s homeroom teacher. Or, you can email your preferred days/times to dm_kotas@comcast.net. If you have any questions, please call Diane Kotas at #408/245-5751.
Thank you and we look forward to seeing you on our “Safari”!
