Mrs. Lipscomb's PE

General Overview

Welcome to the physical education website! Here you will find updates on what we are doing at each level and homework assignments for the middle school students.

Each class will have three components: fitness, skill development, and the bonus segment or "Olympic Flame". It is my goal to have students enjoy being active and recognize the life long value of being physically fit. Each grade level will focus on mastering developmentally appropriate skills as outlined in the state standards. The Olympic flame represents the internal desire to be the best we can be. In class we will focus on individual improvement, being encouraging, communication, good sportsmanship, being the best we can be, and looking after each other.

In the 6th-8th grades our class rules reflect the Student Learning Expectations or SLE's. We are defining what a spiritual, academically prepared, inquisitive, neighborly, trustworthy, and strong student sounds like and acts like in PE. In late September be sure to look in the gym for how we defined these expectations!

We are off to a great start!

Happy Spring!

We are having a blast in PE!

During our warm up portion of class we have moved into using flags for tag games. The students will play a variety of games that allow them to zig zag, change speed, or change direction to avoid having their flag pulled. Also, our tag games turn from individual focus to team focus having to work together to keep your team alive.

Spring skills all relate to striking with an implement. In March we used our racquets. We will begin with keeping the ball/balloon in the air and then try to hit the ball at a target, and finally we end trying to hit the ball back and forth with a partner. This is challenging and above our grade level standards but we like to try.

April focus is on softball/baseball skills. We are reviewing the throwing skills we learned in the fall and learning proper technique for fielding and batting. We begin using a batting 'T' and end with a chance to hit off live pitching- they love getting hits on Mrs. Lipscomb.

During May we will go back and review each of the major skills in our grade standards as we prepare to move on to the next level!
