St. Simon Parish School Launches Web-Based Learning Management System
Los Altos, Calif. September 19, 2014 – When school started this year, families at Saint Simon Parish school welcomed a new learning management system (LMS) to help organize course materials and increase collaboration between students, teacher and parents. Schoology, implemented over the summer, is a cloud-based system that allows teachers to deliver assignments, documents, videos and photos to students as well as administer on-line tests and quizzes. Students in turn are able to submit homework electronically, participate in interactive discussions, and ask questions and receive feedback from teachers. In addition, each student has an integrated personal calendar that shows assignments across all subjects as well as after-school activities such as robotics and sporting events.
“I am now able to provide all my course materials, handouts, and website links to students in one place, making it easier for them to find what they need,” said Erin Inkster, sixth grade language arts teacher. “Moreover, teachers can see assignments for every subject, so we can easily collaborate and manage students’ workload across all of their courses.”
Tony Delfino, a parent with students in sixth and eighth grade, raved about the new system. “Having a tool like Schoology makes it easy to stay on top of my child’s schoolwork. I can see upcoming assignments, immediately see posted grades, and view a daily e-mail on my child’s progress that provides updates on every upcoming assignment and event. Having all that information in one organized tool is a lifesaver.”
“We constantly strive to improve the learning environment for students while increasing organizational efficiency,” said Steve Rummell, principal of St. Simon School, “and this system takes us to the next level.”
In conjunction with the rollout of Schoology, Saint Simon purchased additional laptops for classroom use. Now, every student in fourth though eighth grade has his or her own laptop in the classroom, while kindergarten through third grade students share additional sets of laptops and iPads.
The launch of the learning management system comes on the heels of other technology investments Saint Simon has made over the past several years, including electronic permission slips and electronic billing for student fees.
Schoology offers a dynamic, scalable learning management system that teachers, administrators, parents and students love to adopt. For more information on Schoology, go to www.schoology.com
