Policies:
1. Class Participation: Students are expected to come to class prepared with assignments, supplies, and a good attitude. Participation will affect report card grades.
2. Behavior: Students are expected to act respectfully at all times to all those around them, including adults and property.
3. Homework: Assignments are due at the beginning of class. Homework may be typed or written in blue or black ink. Incomplete or late homework will be given 75% credit if returned the next day. Assignments turned in later than that will not be considered and students will receive a zero. If a student turns in late homework it must be accompanied by a 'late form' and have a parent or guardian signature. "Late forms" and "absent forms" are available in the files and links section. All assignments must contain a proper heading that includes Name, Block, Date, Subject, and Title or Assignment label.
4. Tests: Tests will not be sent home for parent signatures unless a child receives lower than a C-. If this occurs, a parent signature will be requested on the test. If a parent would like to review tests taken by their child, they are always welcome to contact me for an appointment to do so. All grades are available on SchoolOne.
5. Reading Logs: Students will be expected to keep a reading log and record 50 minutes per week. Reading logs will be collected every Thursday. Additional information will be provided on the 7th Grade Language Arts Files and Links.
6. Major Projects: All major projects must be typed, double-spaced, and written in 12pt Times New Roman font. They are due on the assigned date. If a student is absent for any reason, the assignment is still due.
7. Absences: Students who are absent for any reason are responsible for making up all assignments, obtaining missed lecture notes and handouts. Make-up tests and quizzes will need to be arranged with the teacher. Make-up assignments are due pending the amount of days missed.
8. Plagiarism: Cheating is not tolerated. Our Student Learning Expectations of Honor and Character prohibit such dishonesty. All work must be authentic and one’s own.
9. School Grading Scale: 100-93= A, 92-90=A-, 89-87=B+, 86-83=B, 82-80=B-, 79-77=C+, 76-73=C, 72-70=C-, 69-67=D+, 66-63=D, 62-60=D-, 59 and below=F

Grade 7 Language Arts
OBJECTIVES:
The Language Arts course is designed to develop fundamental skills in writing, reading, vocabulary development, grammar, oral presentations and critical thinking.
Additionally, students will learn skills in close reading, note taking, outlining, and prewriting to help prepare them for high school. Students will increase their reading comprehension and literary analysis skills by reading and responding to historically or culturally significant works of literature, as well as expository writings. Reading will be focused on traditional and contemporary pieces of literature and connections. The assignments and class work will develop the student’s ability to reflect on their reading and make connections to other literary works and to the student’s own world. Students will also learn how to write clear, coherent, and focused essays with special emphasis given to narratives, persuasive essays, compare and contrast, character analysis, and a research report. Students will deliver well-organized, formal presentations on selected writing assignments.
